As part of its Scientific Diplomacy Initiative, the Saudi Center for Opinion Polling (SCOP) showcased Saudi society’s experience in fostering sustained reading among children at the Frankfurt Book Fair, held from 7 to 11 October. The presentation was delivered by Dr. Nuha AlWadaani and Mr. Cees Faber.

The presentation examined the findings of SCOP’s 2026 survey on sustained reading among Saudi children from the perspective of their parents. It explored the role of reading in developing children’s linguistic abilities, the influence of parental attitudes in shaping enduring reading habits, and the factors that help establish reading as a lifelong practice.

The presentation generated considerable interest among attendees and specialists, who engaged in in-depth discussions on readers’ needs, the development of initiatives that support children’s reading, and the role of parents in fostering these habits. They also commended the initiative for its depth and its focus on the experience of the Saudi family.

Scientific Diplomacy is a long-standing initiative launched by SCOP to produce content grounded in accuracy and reliability and informed by both data and analysis. Through this initiative, SCOP seeks to bring knowledge and the Saudi experience beyond the local context and into the broader sphere of international dialogue, presenting it as an experience worthy of study, exchange, and mutual learning. In doing so, the initiative strengthens the Kingdom’s presence in global conversations and contributes to building broader bridges of knowledge between the Saudi experience and the international community.
